Residential Peak Season Surcharge – Effective November 1, 2024 


Effective November 1, 2024, through January 13, 2025, a residential peak surcharge of $2.00 per shipment. The Residential Peak Surcharge will apply to all residential shipments as determined by Canpar and Loomis Express at their sole discretion.


Surcharge Descriptions:


Extra Care (Non-Conveyable): Applicable to any article or item absent of proper packaging due to their nature (e.g. size, shape, contents) including pails, containers, tires, ball bearings, nuts, bolts and fasteners, liquids, wooden or metal crates and non-conveyable items.


Over Length: Applicable to any package where a single dimension exceeds 48 inches (122 cm) in length. 


Oversize: Applicable to any package where the length and girth exceed 130” (330cm) or a single dimension exceeds 96” inches (244 cm) in length.
Length is defined as the longest side of the package. Girth is twice the distance around the two smallest sides of a package or object. Girth = 2*(W+H)


Overweight: Applicable to any package or article greater than 70 lbs (32 kg) but less than 150 lbs (68 kg) in actual weight.


OverMax Size or Weight: Applicable to any package that exceeds any one of the following size limitations;
• Any single side that is over 108” (274cm) in length
• Actual weight is over 150lbs (68 kgs)
• The length and girth exceed 165” (419 cm). Length is defined as the longest side of the package. Girth is twice the distance around the two smallest sides of a package or object. Girth = 2(W+H).


GLS:


From October 15th, 2024, through January 17th, 2025. A surcharge will be applied to help ensure GLS can maintain the quality and reliability you expect, even when resources are limited. These surcharges will be applied to Special Handling, Oversized, Low commercial density area/Residential, and Overmax.


The surcharge will be reflected as an additional cost on all parcel shipments and applied in addition to other standard accessorial fees and surcharges.

Special Handling: Any article that is not fully encased in corrugated cardboard or in GLS Canada-Approved Packaging, including but not limited to metal, wood, hard plastic, soft, plastic, or expanded polystyrene foam. Any cylindrical-like item, such as a barrel, drum, liquids, glass, pail, tube, or tire, that is not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard box or shipping container.


Oversized: A package with a length of 1.50 m. Beyond that, a length of 2.00 m (longest side) must not be exceeded.


Low commercial density area/Residential: An area that is primarily residential, or is of a low business (commercial) density as determined by GLS.


Overmax limits: Any package greater than 10 ft, or greater than 150 lbs, or greater than 165 circ


UPS:

            

From September 29, 2024, through November 24, 2024, a Peak-Season surcharge will apply to all UPS parcels requiring special handling, Large Package, or Over Maximum Limits.

Surcharge Description:


Additional Handling: 

  • A package with the longest side exceeding 48 inches or the second-longest side exceeding 30 inches.
  • A shipment where the average weight per package is greater than 50 pounds or packages over 50 pounds with the weight not specified on the source document or the UPS automated shipping system used.
  • A package that is not fully encased in corrugated cardboard. Any cylindrical-like item, such as a barrel, drum, pail or tire, that is not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard shipping container.


Large Package:  For domestic shipments, a package is considered a "Large Package" when its length (longest side of the package) plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 130 inches or its length exceeds 96 inches.


For international shipments, a package is considered a "Large Package" when its length (longest side of the package) plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 130 inches.

With the exception of UPS Ground with Freight Pricing packages, Large Packages are subject to a minimum billable weight of 90 pounds (40 kgs).


Over Maximum Limits: UPS has established specific weight and size limits for the packages sent through our small package delivery network. The limits below only pertain to individual packages. There are no limits to the total weight of your shipment or the total number of packages in your shipment.

  • Packages can be up to 150 pounds.
  • Packages can be up to 165 inches in length and girth combined.
  • Packages can be up to 108 inches in length.
  • Packages with a large size-to-weight ratio require special pricing and dimensional weight calculations.


These limits apply to most packages and destinations, but there are some variances because of different local restrictions in some countries. Packages that exceed UPS weight and size limits above are subject to an Over Maximum Limits charge.


            

Canada Post:


From November 4, 2024, through January 12, 2025, a Peak-Season surcharge will apply to all Canada Post parcels requiring special handling or oversized parcels.

Surcharge Descriptions: 


Oversize: Packages that exceed 96" in length or 130" in length and girth. The charge is based on the package’s actual rounded weight or dim weight, whichever is greater. There is a 90-lb. minimum billable weight, except for express international shipments


Additional Handling: Packages that are:

• Not fully encased in an outer container or packaging


• Encased in an outer container or packaging not made of corrugated cardboard (including metal, wood, canvas,

leather, hard plastic, soft plastic, StyrofoamTM)


• Encased in an outer container or packaging covered in shrink wrap or stretch wrap 1


• Round or cylindrical (including mailing tubes, cans, buckets, barrels, tires, drums, pails)


• Bound with metal, plastic, or cloth banding1, or having wheels (e.g., a bicycle), casters, handles, or straps, including

packages where the outer surface area is loosely wrapped, or contents protrude outside the surface area


• Prone to become entangled in or cause damage to other packages or to our sortation system


Unauthorized Package: 

•  Any package measuring more than 108 inches (274 cm) in length.


•  Any package measuring more than 165 inches (419 cm) in length and girth combined.


•  Any package weighing more than 150 lbs (68 kg)


•  Any package that shifts or expands during transit causing package dimensions to exceed limitations.


Unauthorized packages weighing less than 90 lbs will be billed as 90 lbs packages plus the $1,120 per package


Unauthorized packages weighing more than 90 lbs will be billed at actual weight plus the $1,120 surcharge.


The shipping charges for a Ground unauthorized package will be based on the greatest of the package’s actual rounded weight or dimensional weight, subject to a 90 lbs (41 kg) minimum billable weight.

Purolator:


From November 3, 2024, through January 18, 2025, a Peak-Season surcharge will apply to all carrier parcels requiring special handling or delivered to a residential/low commercial density area.

Peak Additional Handling: 

  Shipments not fully encased in an outer shipping container.


  Any Shipment encased in an outer shipping container not made of corrugated cardboard, including but not limited to canvas, leather, metal, wood, hard plastic, soft plastic (e.g., plastic bag) or expanded polystyrene foam (e.g., Styrofoam).


  Any Shipment bound with metal, wood, leather, plastic or cloth banding, or has wheels, casters, handles or straps (including Shipments where the outer surface area is loosely wrapped or where the contents protrude outside the surface area.


  Shipments encased in an outer shipping container covered in part or whole by shrink wrap or shrink

stretch.


  Any cylindrical-like or irregular-shaped items, including but not limited to duffle bags, mailing

tubes, barrels, drums, cans, buckets, pails, or tires.


  Shipments encased in a soft-sided pack (e.g., courier packs, poly bag or poly mailer) that exceed 18 inches along its longest side or 13 inches along its second-longest side or 5 inches in height.


  Any Shipment routed through Purolator’s irregular package sortation process as required by Purolator.


  Shipments that contain high-risk items, which are not packaged according to Purolator’s accepted standards (see “Purolator Packaging Guide”) and are deemed high risk at Purolator’s discretion.


  Any other Shipment that requires additional handling, as determined by Purolator in its reasonable discretion.


Peak Oversized: Packages that weigh more than 50 lbs (approx. 23 kg) but less than or equal to 150 lbs (approx. 68 kg) or whose longest side measures more than 48“ (approx. 122 cm) and less than or equal to 108“ (approx. 274 cm).

Peak Residential Heavyweight: Packages that are considered heavyweight items for standard residential area pickup or delivery because they weigh more than 70 lbs (approx. 32 kg) and less than or equal to 150 lbs (approx. 68 kg).

Peak Large Package: Packages that measure between 130″ (approx. 330 cm) and 165″ (approx. 419 cm) in total overall Piece size. Each Large Package Piece is subject to a minimum billable weight of 90 pounds (approx. 41 kg).

Peak Over Maximum Limit: Packages that are over the maximum limit because they weigh more than 150 lbs (approx. 68 kg), measure more than 165″ (approx. 419 cm) in total overall Piece size, or their longest side measures more than 108″ (approx. 274 cm). Each Over Maximum Limit Piece is subject to a minimum billable weight of 120 pounds (approx. 55 kg).

Peak Residential: An area that is primarily residential, or is of a low business (commercial) density as determined by Purolator from time to time.
