Handling fees are an optional tool in ShipTime that allow eCommerce store owners to adjust the shipping rates displayed to customers during checkout. These fees help businesses:
Increase Rates – Cover additional processing or packaging costs.
Decrease Rates – Offer discounted shipping to encourage more sales.
Apply Custom Adjustments – Modify rates by either a fixed dollar amount or a percentage.
Important: Handling fees are only applied to the rates shown at checkout. Once the order is placed and synced to ShipTime, the actual shipping costs will be displayed and processed as usual.
How to Enable Handling Fees in ShipTime
Log in to Your ShipTime Account:
Visit ShipTime Login and enter your credentials.
Go to My Integrations:
On the left-hand side, click on Integrations → My Integrations.
Manage Your Store Settings:
Click Manage Store for the store where you want to apply handling fees.
Enable Real-Time Rates (If Not Already Activated):
If Real-Time Rates have not been enabled, first click Enable Rates.
If Real-Time Rates are already enabled, proceed to the next step.
Enable Handling Fees:
Click Enable under the Handling Fees section.
Customize Your Handling Fees:
Enter default package dimensions for more accurate rate calculations.
Select additional shipping preferences, such as:
Signature Required
Residential Surcharge
Insurance Coverage
Choose whether to quote based on Individual Items or Package Items.
Toggle the Handling Fees Option to enable fee adjustments.
Set the increase or decrease amount by selecting:
Fixed Dollar Amount ($) OR Percentage (%)
Positive (increase rates) OR Negative (decrease rates)
Save Your Settings:
Click Enable to apply your changes.
A confirmation message will appear, and the adjusted rates will now be visible during checkout.
How Handling Fees Appear to Customers
Note: Customers on your eCommerce site will not see a separate handling fee. They will only see the final Live Rate calculated based on your handling fee adjustments.
