Effective November 3, 2025 to January 11, 2026


Canada Post has announced its Peak Season Surcharge schedule for the 2025 holiday shipping period. These temporary fees help manage increased parcel volume and the added operational pressure that comes with the busiest months of the year. Surcharges apply to parcels that require special handling or are classified as oversized.


All peak surcharges are applied in addition to Canada Post’s standard rates and any other applicable fees.

Surcharge Descriptions

Additional Handling

Applied to parcels that cannot be processed through automated sortation due to packaging, shape, or material. This includes:

  • Items not fully encased in corrugated cardboard or Canada Post-approved packaging

  • Non-conveyable items such as:

    • Fragile packages

    • Chemical shipments

    • Tubular packages

    • Any item requiring manual processing


Oversized (Out-of-Spec)

Applied when a parcel exceeds Canada Post size limits:

  • Any dimension over 1 m (39.4 inches)

  • A second-longest side measuring more than 76 cm (30 inches)

Packages that exceed these thresholds fall outside Canada Post’s standard specifications and are subject to the Oversized surcharge.
